AND OTHER MUSICAL AND DANCE PRESENTATIONS BY GUEST PERFORMERS
DANCE TEAM
This group of dance students were selected to join this elite group of NWFA dancers by their maestras Amelia, Eve and Jackie. By having proven to them that they are passionate about Flamenco dance, very driven, and ready to take their dance journey to the next level. Other criteria determining team selection were a strong sense of self-responsibility and a discernible growth achieved over time in their Flamenco studies. Over the past 5 months and under the guidance of their three instructors, Cascada Flamenca members have developed their Flamenco repertoire and their performance presentation skills and are eager to share all they have learned with several dances that will be accompanied by live guitar and cante!
TOQUE
The NWFA guitar students under the guidance of their Maestro Jed Miley have also been preparing for the past 5 months for this performance presentation. Students have been studying the art of playing guitar for Flamenco dancers which is a difficult dynamic to develop, requiring proficiency, accuracy and adaptability. Some of these guitarists received scholarships provided by the local non-profit organization Espacio de Arte which helped supplement their tuition costs.
Maestras
As teachers, Amelia, Eve and Jackie believe that students benefit most from studying with multiple teachers that allow them to explore unknown aspects of movement and expression. Students studying in the academy benefit from versatile studies in a rich cultural environment of three experienced Flamenco dance instructors with very different backgrounds. All three Maestra’s are leading players in their craft who offer style, skill and substantiality and they will showcase their unique talents in their performance presentation.
Maestro
Jed Miley is a guitarist, composer and producer based in Seattle, WA. He first began his flamenco journey studying with maestro Marcos Carmona in 1995. His work with Marcos sparked a lifelong interest in Flamenco music, and throughout the late 90’s and early 80’s Jed traveled to Spain various times to learn from some incredible guitar masters including Pedro Sierra, Juan Campallo and Jose Antonio Rodriguez. Jed designed the NWFA weekly guitar program for his students with the focus of musical language communication between flamenco artists made up of dancers, singers and other musicians.
General admission tickets for the intimate space at Flamenco Haven is limited. Seating will be in chairs, stools and benches. If you need special seating for handicapped or the elderly, please contact us with your request. We will make every effort to accommodate. It is advised to buy your tickets early, as it will surely sell out!
